Spring Time Inspiration

Lots of post out there in blogland talking about spring. I think we are all ready for a little springtime magic. This post was so inspiring. I love color!! The idea of taking pictures of bits of color around your home is something I will have to do. Just looking at this mini book of yellow makes me feel that springtime is indeed right around the corner.

Its More Then Photos, Paper, and Glue

Thought I would share some thoughts on scrapbooking. My camera's battery is dead and I have to recharge it, so I haven't been taking photos. I don't like to do too many posts without pictures. Anyway, just finished a project I will share as soon as I can take some photos. In this project I ramble on about scrapbooking and thought I would share. It is truly how I feel as I document our lives through photos and words.

Scrapbooking is not only a way to document our lives, but in doing so, we can see our lives in a new light. It helps us view what we do and we analyze why we do it and if we should continue to do it. What we see as we collect photos and write about our everyday lives helps us view ourselves clearly. It helps us keep what works, stop doing what doesn’t, and appreciate the precious moments that go all too quickly.

DaILy BloGs To ReAd

So here are the blogs I check everyday. I have looked at TONS of blogs and these are the ones that have withstood the test of time. I still check them daily to see if they have posted anything new. So inspiring. Thought I would share.

Surprise Visit

This last Thursday Andrew called asking what our plans were for Valentine's Day. I told him we were just planning on hanging out here at home. He asked if he and Erin could join us!! We were so excited to have them come up and see us!! They left that afternoon and made it here a little after midnight. We spent the weekend together eating junkfood, playing games, and staying up way too late!!

We went to the Portland Art Museum with all three kids. We were pretty sure the security guards were monitoring our every move and warning each other via walkie-talkies that we were coming their way. We went out to dinner at the Tree Restaraunt in Portland and stopped at VooDoo Donuts for dessert.

Valentines Day was spent here at home. We had pizza and "parfaits" (icecream sundaes) for dessert, the kids watched Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, and the adults stayed up late playing games. Sunday was church, a relaxing afternoon dinner, and another late night of games and goodies. So fun to spend time with my family. I love it when they come!! Thanks Andrew and Erin for making the LONG drive here and spending time with us.

Unhappy Boy

This little guy is happy, most of the time, but when he gets mad, he gets MAD!!! I had just gotten him dressed and had been holding him for awhile. I put him in the swing and he just lost it.
He would stop crying, take a breather, and then start up again. I was getting his food ready, but obviously, not doing it fast enough.

Such a sad boy!

Here he is, moments later, food all over his mouth. I promise he wasn't sad for very long.

Valentine Cards

I didn't spend a lot of time on these cards, just put them together. I used some red cardstock, patterned paper, and some scraps of linen. I sewed the linen heart and square directly to the card.

I also put some buttons on a couple of the cards.
With the black card I will have to print out my little Valentine note on some lighter cardstock and adhere it to the inside.

These were super easy to do!! I'm trying to keep it simple and easy this year. If your interested, this is what I did last year.

Photo Fun

Just a few photos of these two guys.

Project Completed

Finally, I have finished this quilt for Karter!! My goal was to get this done before he was born, but I had to wait until we found out if he was a boy or girl, and then I got put on bedrest. So, that is my excuse. Not that I would have gotten it done anyway, Jakob and Isabelle's quilts were both finished about 6-8 months after they were born, so it is just the average time it gets done!
Thought you might be interested to see the other quilts. So fun to put them up next to each other. Isabelle still uses hers, but I had packed Jakob's away for safe keeping. I pulled it out this week to remind Jakob what his blanket looked like.

Valentine Cards

I've been so impressed with this boy and these Valentine Cards. Here he is going down his list, writing down each name, and crossing them off. He has been so focused on doing this job, hasn't been discouraged or frustrated, just working hard to get it done. He has a few more to do and he will be ready for his party on Friday.

Another Snowy Day

We have had so many of these days this year and we love it!! You usually don't see this much snow here in Beaverton. We stayed inside except for taking Jakob to and from school and going to our swimming class. I've been living by our space heater this winter. I need to invest in a hot water bottle to cuddle up with, save some money, these heaters are so expensive to run!

The Things They Say!!

On Sunday I was helping Isabelle get ready for church and she saw her red Christmas dress. She said, "My dress, my beauty."

Isabelle has had the hardest time mixing up Mom and Dad when she is calling us. I know parents mix up their kid's names, but I didn't know kids mixed up their parents. Sometimes I get called Daddy and Steve gets called Mommy. Then sometimes she calls us Maddy or Dommy. I don't know if she is trying to correct her mistake as she is saying our names or if she is just putting them together.

The other day Jakob called the Dishwasher the Super Drying Machine. It is pretty super, even though it only gets about half my dishes clean each time it runs. Maybe I should rinse them better.

Isabelle's Tears

Yet again, this little girl went down, flat on her belly, out on the street in front of our house. She was playing outside with her dad and brothers. So many tears, such a cute face. She stopped crying for the photo, but if you look closely enough you can still see the tears on her cheeks. Love this girl!

Easter 2006

Trying to catch up on all the photos I have not scrapbooked. Hope to see some more of these pages completed. Feels so good to get caught up. (Sorry the photo isn't great, blame the photographer!!)

Celebrating Oregon

Oregon is celebrating 150 years of statehood and Jakob's school asked each family to create something to display for this event. I decided to showcase all the things we love about our amazing state. Jakob helped me pick out some photos of us enjoying the many beauties of Oregon. I made a collage with photoshop, printed it out, and cut it in the shape of our shape. I was really happy with the way it turned out.

2:00 AM WAKEUP CALL!!

A couple nights ago I awoke to Isabelle yelling from her room down the hall. I ran down to her room and realized she was shouting at her brother to give her back her book. I turned the corner and found her sitting up in her bed, wide eyes, and so angry!! It took me a good thirty seconds to calm her down and try to explain to my sleepy toddler that it was only a dream, that her brother Jakob was sleeping in the next room, and couldn't have possibly taken her book. Oh, the fights these two can get into during the day and now it seems I have to deal with disagreements in the night. Isabelle, my fitful sleeper. She usually wakes 1, 2, 3 times a night calling for Steve or I. She usually just needs us to tuck her back under the covers and give her a kiss. My sweet, sweet girl.

Newport Scrapbooked

These are the first digital pages I have done since I was on bedrest. It is so fun to scrapbook digitally for two reasons: 1. There is no mess to clean up. 2. Once you learn a few tricks, your pages come together so quickly!! I'm sure as I learn more I will be able to throw my pages together with even more speed. I will enjoy this way of recording our lives, but I don't think I could ever give up scrapbooking the traditional way. I think a lot more of my pages will come together digitally for the next little bit. I would like to keep up/catch up with recording our lives and with three little children it is hard to make time. Love that I now have an option to do both. (One of the blessings of bedrest!! So glad that I'm done with that.)

Isabelle

Today Isabelle has set a record for herself. I've been amazed today at the amount of times this little girl has fallen down, crashed, or banged herself up in one way or another. She usually has a few accidents each day, but today she took it to a new level. I think she went down four time before church (we start at 9:00am). I'm not just talking about the kind of fall where you trip and jump back up, I'm talking about slamming into the wall and getting a goose egg on your head kind of fall. After church she continued her quest of setting this new record for the day. Whenever she falls down she comes to me crying/screaming in pain. I ask her if she is alright, she always says yes through her tears, and then takes another couple minutes to calm down. She is so darn cute when she cries, but I'm seriously at the point where I just roll my eyes (not one of my best mom moments) when I hear her crash and fall. I just keep waiting for her to learn to slow down, to be careful climbing, to watch where she is going, etc. One day I hope she will learn, but for now I will enjoy the fact that cuddle time with mom and a kiss cures all her sorrow.
