Karter Man

We have done the "no sugar for the first year" rule for our babies. This has been super easy considering my babies only have breast milk/formula until they are 6 months. By the time we get through all the different baby foods (bananas, peaches, peas, etc.) they are about 9 months. We start on the chunky food and the crackers. During the first year they don't even eat "real" food with us, so they usually don't want what we are eating. Well, this worked great with Jakob and Isabelle, and was working just fine with Karter. Then, Isabelle stepped in and decided to help me feed Karter. Of course it had to be pudding!! My kids never get pudding, it just isn't something we have in the house, but I just rotated the food in our 72 hour kits and we have been eating the snacks that were packed inside. Last week I gave the kids these pudding packs after lunch. I was working on cleaning up the kitchen and I turned around to see Karter with pudding all over his face. When I turned around and saw him I just was so sad. Sad that I haven't been able to give as much to this little guy as I have to my other two. Sad that there is just so much to do with a house full of kids. Sad that I'm not on top of enforcing the "rules" of our house as much as I would like to be. Sad that I'm not 100% consistant. Sad that more things seem to fall through the cracks.

BUT, I quickly caught myself and just laughed!! He was so happy to enjoy this yummy treat. Isabelle was so proud of herself for sharing with her brother. I realized that it was not that big of a deal. The point of the "no sugar rule" is not to prance around and announce to the world that we didn't give sugar to our kids, the rule is to help us keep our kids healthy at a time when they really aren't tempted by sweets, when they really don't need it. He is fine, we are fine.
There have been many moments since having Karter that I have struggled with feelings of not being able to give him what I gave Jakob and even Isabelle. Each time I have felt this way the Spirit always helps me see that yes I may not be giving him exactly what I gave his older siblings, but that is okay. He is blessed with a different set of blessings. He has a brother and a sister who give him so much!! He has a mother that is experienced, that is a lot more mellow then she was with her first, and has learned to let a lot go. He is surrounded by music, toys, conversations, books, friends, storytime, trips to the zoo, playdates at the park, tons of cousins, and so many kisses and hugs. He is the center of attention in our family and everyone loves him!! He has so many wonderful blessings in his life. Heavenly Father knows what we need, what families we should come to, and in what order we should come. Karter was meant to be with us, we can't imagine our lives without him.

Karter, you are an amazing example to me of Heavenly Father's love for each of his chidren. He knows us individually and gives us what we personally need. We must look at our lives and focus on the blessings. So, my Karter boy, with pudding all over your 10 month old face, I will celebrate your life and the joy that you brings to ours.

A Sunny Day, A Walk Home From Church, And A Worm.

I can't think of a better way to spend a Sunday morning. Isabelle found this worm in the grass outside of church. I couldn't believe she actually picked it up. She was so excited and cradled it in her hands as she walked home. She was so sweet with it. The worm was alive when she first picked it up, I wish I could say it made it home, but it was gone by the time we got there.

Sunny Days

So glad that it is sunny and warm. Living in the Pacific Northwest, warm sunny days are so appreciated!! Last Saturday we headed out on a bike ride. We made a quick stop at a bike shop to get a cruiser for me. I DIDN'T TAKE ANY PHOTOS OF MY BIKE!!! Always leaving myself out of the photo shoots. Anyway, I'll post photos of my new bike later.
So, how do you get three kids out on a bike ride? This is how we do it!! We get so many comments on this mode of transportation.

Love the runner who has to take a look at the caravan of bikes and trailors being pulled. This day we had an extra green machine tied to the back. Jakob was riding it but we switched him to the tandem and put Isabelle and Karter in the back. Always amazed at what my husband can make work. Genius, I tell you, always thinking outside the box.

Okay, what is it with this kid always wanting his shirt off. If it is a warm day the shirt comes off. Still trying to convince Isabelle that girls don't take their shirts in public. I hope someday she'll get it or we might be in trouble.
You may ask why I don't drag any of the kids around on my bike. Well, Steve has all the attachments on his bike and he says it would be a pain to switch them. Secretly I'm glad. I think it evens up the ride. Easy to keep up with a guy that is dragging three kids, a trailor, and a green machine.

Loving these summer days!

I Hope They Call Me On A Mission.

This little girl is challenging me each and everyday. She has so much energy and just goes and goes and goes and get the point. Well, we have been listening to this fun CD from INSIDEOUT and they sing "I Hope They Call Me On A Mission." In the song a little girl is asked a bunch of questions about going on mission. One of the questions is what she would take with her on her mission. I asked Isabelle the same question, she said, "My mommy." How cute is that?!!? Well, we'll see if she feels the same way when she is 21!! Come to think of it, taking my mom on my mission, would have been a great idea!
Such a fun CD!! You can find more info here.

Then and Now

I spent Mother's Day scrapbooking these two pictures. I loved being able to take Mother's Day and reflect on my mom and being a mom. Isabelle and Jakob insisted that the first picture was Isabelle with Grandma. Fun to see the similarities.

Project #7 - Grandma Photo Frame

I made these this week for both Grandmas. It reads, "Some of my greatest treasures call me Grandma." I LOVE how it turned out!! I hope both my mom and Steve's mom know how much they are loved and how much they mean to us!! We feel so blessed to have them in our lives and to celebrate them this day.

Oh, after I finished I had to make one for me. I just changed it to read, "My greatest treasures call me Mother." Love it!
