It has been a busy couple weeks.  My brother Andrew and his wife Erin came a couple weeks ago.  We offered Andrew a management position in our Plumbing Company and he accepted.  Check out this post where they share their eventful story of their move here.  Its quite a story.

We are so excited to have them here!!  More family close by and it has been an answer to our many prayers on what direction to go with our company!!

Some Advice....

So, some friendly advice, the next time you hear your two year old vigorously shaking a box of cereal run to the kitchen and grab that box away.  If you don't, you may find something like this.

Screwtape Letters

I just finished this book this morning.  I could easily read this through again and again, there are so many things to think about, so many things that apply to me in my life.  All I have left to read for this year is Ender's Game.  I'm saving 7 Habits of Highly Effective People for this next year.  You can find my original 2010 booklist here.

Old Chalkboard

I hesitate to show this, not a great picture and I haven't done anything with it yet, but I do love it!  This is a chalkboard I found at a thrift shop!  I'm not sure what I'm going to do with this yet.  I do love the old stuff mixed with the new, so I'm sure I'll be adding something of that nature to this. Right now I'm enjoying the Christmas Season, but this January will be filled with organization, decoration, and projects.  I can hardly wait!

When you eat do you need to be surrounded by things that you love?  Karter does.  He has his trains, his car, a video of Thomas, and his blanket ("baby") that is off to the side.  He loves to be surrounded by things that bring him comfort and joy.

Isabelle's Outfits

So, clothing choice hasn't been a big deal with my kids.  Another thing that has helped is they can only wear what is in their closet.  Since I have control over that, they can't go too off track.  Jakob has always been super easy.  He has a closet full of jeans or cords and shirts.  He chooses his clothes most days.  I only choose them on days that I care, maybe once or twice a month.  Our biggest concern now is he tries to wear the same shirt two days in a row.  That isn't allowed.

Isabelle has also been pretty easy to work with.  The pattern that has worked best with my her is I pick out her clothes on the days that I care and she can choose them on the days that don't.  This has worked well for us.  Can you guess whose turn it was to select the outfit on the day pictured below??

And Karter??  Well, Karter is a diferent story.  He isn't even 2 1/2 and he cares about what he wears, or more importantly what he doesn't want to wear.  He still has a hard time changing clothes 50% of the time.  He does well wearing clothes that have trains or cars on them, he doesn't do as well with clothes that don't.  He also has a pair of shoes that he loves!!  He wants to wear them all the time.  They just happen to be the ones I bought at Goodwill, the ones I set aside for getting dirty.  He has three pairs of nice shoes in his closet and he wants to wear the old, used, stained ones everyday.  He does wear them, each and every day, and even goes down for his nap with his shoes on.  And occasionally, he has even worn them to bed.  Now, it is tricky to put him to bed with his shoes over his feet pajamas, but you have to choose your battles.  Sometimes you have to balance discipline.  Of course I'm still figuring it out, but this is working for us right now.
