Calm My Anxious Heart by Linda Dillow
This book speaks of anxiety, particularly in motherhood, and ways to apply contentment to our daily lives. Sounds perfect. It is broken into 12 sections, into a bible study. I just ordered a copy of this, it came highly recommended from a trusted friend, and I'm excited to start on it. Maybe I'll spend a couple of hours during my Mother's Day weekend
Deliberate Motherhood by Power of Mothers
This book is broken into 12 chapters, each chapter focused on a particular aspect of motherhood. So encouraging for moms. We studied this a few months ago during a motherhood book group with some good friends.
Surprised By Motherhood by Lisa-Jo Baker
Lisa-Jo Baker shared her story of motherhood, how she began her adult life not wanting children, and how that changed for her over time. Lots of tears shed throughout.
A Gift of an Ordinary Day by Katrina Kenison
Katrina Kenison shares her thoughts on motherhood and her transition as her children leave home. I completely enjoyed this read.
Mitten Strings for God by Katrina Kenison
This is one I haven't read but came highly recommended from a trusted friend. Since I have read A Gift of an Ordinary Day and loved it, needless to say, I'm excited to read this book.
Notes From a Blue Bike by Tsh Oxenreider
Tsh shares her thoughts on simplicity and motherhood. I loved all her stories and practical tips on applying these principles. So enjoyed this read.
Bread and Wine by Shauna Niequist
This is a book focused on hospitality and food, but Shauna also opens up about motherhood, her struggle with miscarriage, and her love of motherhood. A lovely, blissful read.
Fiction Choices
The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton
Some may say this is an interesting description of this compelling novel, but I'm describing it as a haunting tale of mothering on so many different levels. I adored this book, so very compelling.
The Language of Flowers by Vanessa Diffenbaugh
Such an complex read of motherhood, the difficulties we face, the reasons we make the choices we do, and why we should forgive.
A Sweethaven Summer by Courtney Walsh
Friendship and love, understanding and motherhood, are laced throughout this lovely book. A story of a girl who after her mother's death, returns to her mother's summer home and finds answers to her lifelong questions.
The Help by Kathryn Stockett
The story of a variety of mother's in 1962 Mississippi as some try to hold on to the life they know and some have the strength to break out and move forward into a life they hope for. Mother and mother figure are sprinkled throughout this story.
Love Comes Softly by Janette Oke
I love this story of motherhood, as a women expecting her first child is left widowed in the west after her husband dies, she is compelled to marry a widower with a young daughter. I adore this book. An instant mother in a less then ideal situation, such beauty can come from heartache.
Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
A classic tale of a mother with four delightful daughters. I completely enjoyed this story of raising a group of girls, the way Mrs. March mothers each of her daughters differently is fascinating, and the love in this little family is palpable on every page.
Little Men by Louisa My Alcott
In this book we follow Jo March as she marries and raises her boys. Her and her husband decide to open their home and create a school for boys. A lovely companion to Little Women, which focuses on raising girls, this focuses on raising a house full of boys.
Anne of Ingleside by L. M. Montgomery
Anne, our favorite imaginative girl, has grown up, married, and now has a family of her own. In this book we follow Anne as she become a mother and follow her heart as she raises her own delightfully active family.
