Home Decorating Philosophy & Trends | Day 21 Clean Start

We have talked about home decor philosophies and trends, rules to follow, tricks to try, items to make and purchase.  How to add fun, quirky, and interesting items to our homes.  Today I want to talk about something a bit different, a simple technique that you can use to freshen up a room or your entire home.  It cost nothing and it doesn't take a lot of thought.

If a room is unappealing or feels a bit boring, a simple technique to try is to start by clearing out the clutter and giving it a thorough cleaning.  I'm always amazed at how this simple trick can freshens up a room.

This last week I had some friends over for a book group and I decided to clean my kitchen from top to bottom.  I cleared out all the extra items that had gathered and simply put them away.  I then washed everything down, removed and scrubbed behind seldom moved items.  I decided to store away a couple things that were living on my countertops that were rarely used.  I scrubbed the sink and swept and mopped the floor.  I washed down chairs and cupboard doors.  Before they arrived I lit a candle and set out our refreshments.  It was beautiful, clean, and a lovely room to be in.  I felt like it had undergone a mini transformation.

Clearing out the clutter and cleaning can be the magic solution you need to love certain areas in your home.  It may even inspire you to move forward with other decorating endeavors.
