Home Decorating Philosophy & Trends | Day 31 Contentment

It has been so fun to share my approach to decorating our home over these last few weeks.  Obviously, I don't take a professional approach to decorating my home, nor do I want to.  I love that my home is filled with all sorts of treasured items, that it functions well, and that it is full of imperfections.  It houses our rowdy family and must work hard for us day in and day out.  Our home is a work in progress, one that I continue to improve upon.  I find such joy in making our house a home.

Today I want to share a bit about contentment in our decorating endeavors.  Over the years it seems that there have been times when I have focused on decorating and then there have been months that I haven't done much decorating.  It comes in waves.  During the times that I don't decorate I focus on contentment for what I have and appreciate the current state of our home.

Have you noticed that sometimes others' homes always look better then your own?  We often miss the beauty that surrounds us.  It becomes ordinary and everyday.  I have corners and pockets of my home that I want to update, that I have plans for, but there are only so many hours in the day and so many other things that need my attention.  Contentment helps me through these times when I can't do as much.

There have been times in my life where I have found myself remodeling and times when money was tight and new furniture was not an option.  I have been on bed rest, I have lived with family, I have been in the middle of moving, or I have just been too busy with everyday life.  During these times I must practice contentment.  Maybe you know exactly what you want but your living situation doesn't allow for that.  We have seasons in our lives and perhaps this is the season where you can't do everything you would like to do.

There are times when you cannot devote time to any type of home improvements, but perhaps you can do something.  If you wish to decorate your home, but feel limited in what you can do, try to do a little something.  I'm sure in every situation, with a little thought and creativity, there is something you could do to add beauty to your home.  Then always, always work to be content with where you are at.

Strive to love the home that you have and where you are right now.  Your home will never be done and that really is the beauty of homemaking.  Our homes are living and breathing, changing daily, hourly with the ebb and flow of real life.  Finding contentment in the process of making a house a home will add joy to our everydays.

Thanks so much for joining me for this series.  You can find the my complete 31 day Home Decorating Series here.
